Gwinnett Awarded $750K Federal Grant to Combat Elder Abuse

Gwinnett County has been awarded a $750,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to strengthen efforts to prevent elder abuse and protect older adults from exploitation. Solicitor-General LisaMarie Bristol said the funding will support community education and awareness about elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation, while also helping older adults recognize potential threats and learn ways to protect themselves.

The grant will also provide training for Gwinnett County first responders, including fire and EMS personnel, to help them better recognize signs of possible elder abuse. Solicitor-General Bristol emphasized that elder abuse is significantly underreported, making education and early identification critical. The grant is fully federally funded and does not require county funding.
