GSU Black History Month Spotlight on Lisamarie

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we are proud to spotlight faculty and alumni of Georgia State University College of Law who embody excellence in education, advocacy, and leadership.

Lisamarie Bristol (J.D. ’09) has built a career dedicated to justice and community service. Currently an adjunct professor at the College of Law, she teaches Lawyering Advocacy to second-year students while serving as the Gwinnett County Solicitor General—the first African-American woman to hold the position.

After earning her J.D. in 2009, Professor Bristol began her career as a public defender, representing individuals charged with misdemeanors and felonies. She transitioned to prosecution in 2014, specializing in cases of domestic violence, elder abuse, stalking, and animal cruelty in the Special Victims Unit of the DeKalb County Solicitor-General’s Office.
