April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). This is a time to stand with survivors, raise awareness, and work together to end sexual violence. On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the Gwinnett County Solicitor General’s Office proudly participated in “Denim Day”, joining a nationwide movement to challenge harmful myths surrounding sexual assault.
Why Denim?
Denim Day began after a court ruling in Italy where a rape victim was overturned because the victim was wearing tight jeans. The implication was that she must have helped remove them, suggesting consent. In protest, people across the world began wearing jeans to stand in solidarity with survivors and fight back against victim-blaming.
By wearing jeans on April 30, 2025, our community, partners, and staff helped raise awareness and show support for survivors. Use your voice to help shift the narrative and support prevention efforts.
Together, we can a difference by prompting respect, support, and justice for all.
